wrong council tax band

Hi there,
I think my newly purchased property has a wrong tax band. When applying for a change do I have to claim from the date I purchased the house or from the date when the wrong tax band was applied?

It is from when you moved in as per the quote taken from the link below;

"the repayment should be backdated to when you moved into the property, as far back as when the tax started in 1993."

If it hasn't changed since you've been living there I'm not sure why you'd think it could be backdated to prior to your arrival. Isn't that an issue for the previous owner?

If a Council Tax band has been incorrect since the date the house was first assessed for CT then the revised band will be effective from that date. So any occupier who has overpaid CT during that period should be entitled to a refund. However some councils will only go back 7 years for refunds.
