Adding husband with poor credit history to mortgage

Hi all,
My husband has had a poor credit history and has finally paid his historical debts off using PayPlan for the last 6 years. He has managed to get a Vanquis credit card which he was recommended to do to start improving his credit history.
He has also obtained his credit file from Experian and there are no defaults etc., just not much history.
So, the mortgage has always been in my name (my credit history is fine), but we would like to get him added.
I guess my question is, would we have to completely remortgage to get him added to the mortgage, and if this is the case, I guess we would be limited to which mortgage companies would offer us a mortgage with an attractive rate? I'm currently on a non fixed Halifax mortgage and happy with it.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.
TIA.

Any particular reason to do it now and not let a little time pass by?0

Hi thrugelmir,
No reason at all, we will do it eventually, are we best waiting until he has built up a credit history? His isn't exactly poor, but non existent for the last 6 years!
Only thing is I may have to remortgage soon to get a good fixed rate (I'm just on standard variable now) and it would help having him on it as I have taken out a loan to do house renovations and I know Halifax will remove the loan amount from the amount I can borrow - I think that's what they did last time from memory so would be beneficial to go joint just in case.
He's on a good salary so that isn't the issue, was just wondering whether it would make any difference doing it now to say 2-3 years time?0 -
I'd make sure he "exists" to creditors first: phone bill, credit card paid off properly but not precisely: eg use £200 on it a month, pay off somewhere between £180 and £220 to maintain a balance of some kind."You did not pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You were lucky enough to come of age at a time when housing was cheap, welfare was generous, and inflation was high enough to wipe out any debts you acquired. I’m pleased for you, but please stop being so unbearably smug about it."0
