Been bankrupt 14 days today, got Barclays account 7 days ago, visa card not long behind and they told me because of bankruptcy I would not be able to have online banking, but could set up direct debits and pay online etc., I said could I have it when it is available, please, and she said yes in a year.
In today's post arrived all the necessary numbers and passcodes for online banking and I left it thinking they had made a mistake. However half an hour ago unable to resist the temptation any longer I tried it out and got it online and I can see money has been paid in. :j
I only hope this continues and I am not cut off.
Just wondering if anyone else had the same thing.

Ha brilliant :-) . A few others have slipped through the net but most not. Having said that, last year there was talk of Barclays changing their policy & allowing online access for bankrupts, so maybe ..... Who knows!!SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65
SPC 9 (2016) #485 TOTAL £84
SPC 10 (2017) # 485 TOTAL: £464.80
SPC 11 (2018) #4850 -
This has happened to quite a few only for the online access to be stopped after a few weeks, although a very very small minority have slipped through the net.:pB&SC No. 298

You could set up phone app banking as well - if you do manage to slip though the net you'll get that too

Hi
Just so you are fully prepared, I had online banking and mobile banking set up when I had my meeting with a bank manager for my Barclays account.
I even queried this with her at the time and she said I could have access.
About 10 days later I was getting emails and texts from Barclays confirming the closure of my account. It scared the absolute bejesus out of me. Turns out my account wasn't closing but Internet and mobile banking was. Confirmed that after a year I could apply for it again.
Was nice while it lasted. I sure do miss it.0 -
Thank you for the replies and I will be prepared. I know the account is safe because I opened it a week after the BR and we discussed it, that is why they told me I could not have online for a year, but I would have panicked too D&G but my comfort is they cannot send any emails to my non existent mobile
. I have made a spread-sheet and will keep that daily so I will be aware of what is/is not in the account and will check the balance a couple of times a week at an ATM to make sure there are no problems; it's inconvenient, but shouldn't be so bad learning once again to live as I did before the internet, but it is helpful in the beginning to see that what should be going in is. Although this is available I will not be setting up any direct debits or standing orders, everything will be paid online at least for the next year. It is no problem to me, I am well organised and I will feel more secure checking money at the ATM making sure it is in there before paying "just in case". Probably I am being over cautious but I do not want any mess ups and it will give me peace of mind.

It will be therapeutic, or something like that :rotfl:"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0 -
You can have weekly paper statements by post too if you go in and ask - some staff say "oh we don't do them weekly..." but thye can and do so if you want them tell them to check the options on their screen

I was able to get online banking with my Barclays basic account when undischarged. I hadn't mentioned it when opening the account but just applied through the website to see what would happen, and they sent me the passwords etc through the post and it seemed to work fine and it was never withdrawn. I didn't actually use it that much since I already had a Co-op account as well.
This happened last year (was discharged in September) and I'm still using both accounts without any issues.0
