I am a IT contractor and set up private limited company. I am the director and my wife is employee and a share holder. My wife was pregnant and had my second baby born in Feb 2012.
I did not claim any maternity pay from HMRC. The payroll was run for her during her whole pregnancy by mistake. Can i check with HMRC and get maternity benefit now. The doctor has now given MAT1B form now.
Is it possible to get the benefit now?
Can you please advise?

I wouldn't think it can be claimed 3 years after the event.
Reasons for not paying SMP are at para 3.5 of the technical guidance here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/maternity-benefits-technical-guidance/maternity-benefits-technical-guidance0 -

It is not your accountant but the HMRC PAYE Accounts Office that your payments are remitted to. They will be able to advise whether you can claim and, if so, how to do so.
