Student Loan repayment advice
Options
I have a pre-1998 mortgage-style student loan which, due to the deferral threshold decreasing, I now need to repay. Today I've received a letter from Thesis informing me that they have been notified that I have cancelled my direct debit instruction with my bank and that I need to ring them to provide my bank details or arrange payment - which is a bit odd as
a) I haven't cancelled the direct debit, I provided my bank details to the SLC and they haven't changed.
b) I've read elsewhere that all pre-1998 loans have been sold to Erudio.
As every google search result on student loans seems to be some horror story or other about dodgy private repayment companies causing endless problems, I'm just wondering what's the safest way of getting this resolved? If necessary, I can get together the money to pay the whole amount off.
I'm dubious about giving them my bank details if they genuinely don't have them but, with the direct debit guarantee, is that the safest option in terms of getting evidence of what I have paid and making sure they don't take more than is owed? Are there any particular tricks and problems I should be aware of?
