Does anyone know exactly what time the strike is at this Thursday? All the information I can find just says a 4 hour stoppage but not which 4 hours they are? I have a midwife appt in the afternoon but haven't been advised if it is affected or not, do u think I would receive a cancellation phone call or am just supposed to know?

8am to 12 midday as far as I am aware, afternoon appointments should be fine, if your appointment is to be cancelled they will contact you.

All emergency cover is in place on the wards and it will be business as usual apart from morning outpatient appointments and ante natal classes.

First time in their history that these overworked and underpaid staff have gone on strike, they deserve our full support.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Since they are paid out of taxes and do not contribute to the economy they should be grateful that they get any money at all! And since there is a big deficit we need to save money on luxuries like getting born...

If you say it often enough it makes it true. I have to say I've paid no attention to this and I don't know what it's about, which shows there's not much industrial muscle there.

Does it stay at that level or could it be pushed down, pushed down, and again like that?

    Top post :T

The majority of Midwives (ie the ones doing the actual work rather than managers) are on a band 5 £21.5K - £27.9K after 5 years (not after 1 year)

Last years 1% pay rise was paid in March as a lump sum of a staggering £200 after tax and then the 1% was removed from the pay scales in NI. England, Scotland and Wales keep the 1% on their pay scales :o This year if they get a rise it will be most likely the 1% reinstated from last year, so an actual pay cut.

This is why they have decided to go on strike, but the strike will NOT effect any patients who need their help or assistance.

Maybe we should pay Midwives minimum wage ? They are only fancy nurses who only do a degree course for 3 years followed by a further 3 years before they are considered qualified. They are only worth a zero GCSE burger flippers wage after all :o
