Iceland Beef and Yorkshire Pudding at 89p is good value and seems sufficient .
  • Sainsburys basics salmon cottage pie, if I remember correctly about 70p, very nice - and when I need to give my 9 year old a quick tea on Thursday I'm happy to feed him this and he's happy to eat it!

  • M&S dine in for £10 isn't really that cheap but it's the only kind of ready meal we normally get. Would recommend the spanish chicken & patatas bravas as there's plenty of it & it's very nice. Besides, a lot of the puddings are meant to feed 4 not 2. Don't normally buy from there otherwise but it counts as a "treat" (not having to cook!)

As much as I'm against pre-made food, Giovanni Rana meals are awesome, and often on offer at only £1.

And if you're counting calories, the Low-Low meals seem to come in cheap and much lower calories than other brands. Again, better to cook your own. But it can really help to know the exact number of calories you're getting if you need to be strict.

I'd agree about the M&S meals making a change and they can be very good value if you choose wisely. I tend to go for steak when it's available.

IMO this is a pretty silly idea for a thread on mse. I think we all know the best value (and healthiest) way to eat and it's not ready meals.
  • I do love a ready made meal but getting one that tastes nice and is good quality is difficult to find at a good price.

I am also very worried about what the meat content is in most ready made meals as so many have proved to be dodgy - especially after the last scare when it was discovered that quite often the meat listed on the pack wasn't actually the meat in the meal.

Due to this I started trying some vegetarian meals and have found the Asda frozen range to be excellent and very, very cheap - especially when they're on special offer, which they frequently are!

I now buy them in bulk when they're on offer and we have at least one of them a week to cut down our meat eating and to make our weekly budget lower for food costs as they are so cheap!

I just bought "Beet bourguignon" at the brilliantly reduced price of £1.25 for two of them in a box - so the main part of our dinner tonight for the 4 of us is only costing £2.50 - very cheap!

I think they may be stopping these (which is a big shame) as they're reduced so low now and looking online I can't see them anymore :(

They have lots of others and we also like the cauliflower cheese grills.

Many of them are so tasty but they do seem to keep changing the range all the time so I'd recommend if you find something you like, buy it all up before they stop making it!!
  • These pizzas come in two different flavours - 4 cheese or Pepperoni. At £2 they are great value. We add some of our own toppings and heat them in the microwave as we don't like the base to be crispy. They are gorgeous. We share one between us and have a side helping of bar-b-que ribs & coleslaw. We think they are better that pizza hut and having a cheese stuffed crust, they are not dry - fabulous

Ah, see it now! You couldn't see where the pizzas were from on the site but now I have come on to comment, I see they are from Iceland, thanks.

I always enjoy any of the value ranges mac's ' cheese. Proper comfort food with a little extra cheese sprinkled on top and a bit of garlic bread on the side.

I also enjoy Tesco's finest £10 deal which comes with a bottle of wine for when I want to have a nice night in with someone where I'm not constantly in the kitchen checking on the food.

Otherwise I usually batch cook and freeze my own "ready meals" so I can always come home and have something healthyish for my tea if I'm too tired to cook. Plus you can freeze almost anything :D
  • Sainsburys basics range are only 80p (one portion) and never had a bad one yet. Plenty of meat in shepherds / cottage pie. Saus & mash with onion gravy nice as well. Seem to have stopped making the salmon cottage pie (which had plenty of salmon in) cos haven't seen it for a few weeks now. Not too bad healthy eating-wise either. Just add veg!
