Career Crossroads

Good Afternoon All,
I am currently in a career crossroads, I am 30 years old and for the last 4-5 years I have been working in a sales environment, which I hate.
I am looking to get into finance as I have a great love for numbers and stats, and even though I struggle with my finances I am good at helping other people with money.
My mother is high up in a national high street bank, which is where i get my interest for finance from, I saw how she worked and worked and it paid off.
I dont want to use her connections and get a job on connections opposed to my skill level.
Does anyone have any ideas what I should do. All I know is that I sales is not for me, I am good at it, just I dont get the spark I want out of a career, and sales to me is more a job than career.
At my current company I have done everything, I have worked in IT, Marketing, and Sales. The marketing was good but short lived as my skills were required back in sales, but now being 30 and with a young family I have decided that I dont want to live paycheck to paycheck on a career i see going no where I want to build a career and start enjoying work life.

It sounds like your mum would be the most ideal person for you to get advice from in terms of qualifications, skills, career path and even interview tips. Being as she is doing the job you want to do.0

There are many web services that contain huge amount of available jobs database. Probably, you should try them to avoid use your family connections. You may find whetever you want on getbetterjob.com or somewhere else, there are a lot of them. Just enter your region and work position. If it won't work out, you should try to change the region, probably this is what you need, just to change the place you're spend time in. But I can be wrong so it is only for you to decide
Why that website ?0 -

Finance is a very broad subject and it differs from banking too.
To get a bit more understanding just speak to your mother.
Do you want to be an accountant in finance? Do you want to prepare financial statements? Are you interested in decision making by looking at numbers or do you want to play at stock market with others money etc.
I work in Finance department and am a qualified accountant but I don't do accounts. There are many different roles in finance. So it is a bit like saying I want to be an artist.
ACCA, CFA, CIMA websites could give you ideas about career paths and starting points.
You can look at apprenticeships.
So a bit research and chat with your mother should at least form an idea.ally.0 -

I understand what you mean, but you don't have to work for her or her company/department. Can she not tell you of internal jobs when available and you could try to go through a normal interview process?SPC 08 - #452 - £415

Yes I gathered he was spamming but I was also hoping he wasn't and it would get a reaction.0
