Mortgage Application Declined - Should we go to a broker next time?

My boyfriend and I applied for a DIP and it got declined. It was the Nationwide we went with because it's where we have all our accounts including our mortgage savings account (Save to buy). Nationwide are often a bit funny if you have a large amount of debt even if it is being cleared. PCP's are often for more than it seems when you have one due to the potential balloon payment at the end of the initial term.
