Rent question...Am I trapped here?

Hi Doomandgloom! First 2 places were private lets, through word of mouth/gumtree and I didn't need anything more than the usual 1 months rent as deposit and first months rent upfront.

When I used a very large letting agent they insisted on 6 months rent upfront, and when it came to renewing, they wanted 6 months again but i think they were just greedy. I went to another agency and they didn't ask for 6months upfront but did say I could pay that if i wanted to.

I'm now almost 5 years post BR and it does get easier but I would always recommend using a smaller agency and don't feel like you HAVE to live in rubbish places cause the bigger agencies won't touch you.
