jury service

I did jury service in Leeds a couple of months ago (which had 13 courts running at the time I was there) I did nothing at all for the first week, then was called on 4 cases in the second week - but only one through to a verdict! To be honest the system seemed a total shambles to me, but there must be some logic to it somewhere!
My form only had boxes for if you could go back half days - if they ticked yes then you wouldn't get the allowance for the full day if you were released before lunch. They reminded you each time you were realised to go back to work!!0 -
Hubby did Jury Service and it was pointed out to him that if he wasn't needed he was to return to work , but in the end he got on a long trial of fraud and was there for 7wks. His boss was none too happy .#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Some courts operate a system where jurors phone to see if they are required next day. That doesn't mean definitely on a case though, means you have to go in.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I have Jury service next week and have received a letter stating that I could potentially be in a trial for 8 weeks.
There was a form attached to complete if you can not do the 8 weeks, ie, due to medical appointments, work, holidays etc.
I can not stay for so long, as I will be loosing money due to my employer not covering my salary.
I get paid a basic and commission, 2 weeks I could cope with, but I will definitely be worse off after 2 months.
What can I put as a valid reason not to be selected for a possible 8 week trial?0 -

But as the link explains, the 'pay' is limited. Works out the equivilent of about £8 per hour (assuming the usual maximum service of up to 10 working days) plus expenses.
