Mortgage application failed - Re-apply

Question regarding re-applying after a failed application:
So I have a single default (satisfied) that will faill off my CRF in July/August this year.
I recently applied for a mortgage with Halifax, via a broker, but my application was declined (had a DIP but I realise that's not really worth much).
My broker did find another lender but the rate & LTV was too high, so I said no.
My intention is to wait until the default has fallen off all 3x CRAs and then hopefully I will have better options available to me.
My question is: Even though my CRF would now be free of any adverse history, will HBOS group banks look at my previous failed application, showing I had a default at that time, and will this have a negative effect ?
If so would avoiding HBOS, when I retry, be best advised ?

Following this post -I have been speaking to a broker who has advised me to apply with the Halifax. I have several defaults on my file (4 years old and now all satisfied in full) and a couple of late payments (over 12 months old) but he said it should even if they don't give me a DIP then I should be ok sending a full application to the underwriters due to me having a clear record for the last 12 month - but looking at the above post, I am wondering if this is bad advice to apply with them, if they rejected you on 1 default almost 6 years old?0

They would not be my pick for multiple defaults but you might get lucky.
Our OP will obtain a new score from HBOS in August based on their view at that time.I am a Mortgage Broker

Must admit I was a bit surprised that i was recommended to a high street lender - I have already had one application rejected several months ago with a lender who do adverse credit (kensington) and then found out it was because some of the defaults on my file weren't satisfied, a fact that the previous broker didn't pick up on my credit reports that I supplied. So now I have gone through the reports myself and paid them off and hope that helps as my new broker said that Halifax accepts defaults over 3 years but only as long as they are paid and not still outstanding at the time of application? Hoping they are telling me the truth!0
