How do I get a DBS check? Where do I go?

Options
My DD is going abroad teaching over Summer in a volunteer capacity.

Its all booked but she needs a DBS check, I had only known it as a CRB check from the many years ago I had one done for work but in them days it was paid for by work.

Anyhow,

I have googled and get a Direct Gov sight but maybe I am thick but cant see where I actually get the form for her to fill in,

Do we go to the local Police station and do it?

Any input would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance from myself and DD she hasn't got an account here so asked me to post as in the past I have had lots of great advice.

How to get a DBS check

The employer gets an application form from DBS or an umbrella body (a registered body that gives access to DBS checks).

The employer gives the applicant the form to fill in and return to them along with documents proving their identity.

The employer sends the completed application form to DBS or their umbrella body.

DBS sends a certificate to the applicant. The employer has to ask the applicant to see the certificate.

If the applicant has subscribed to the DBS update service, the employer can check their certificate online.

Applicants (job candidates) can’t do a criminal records check on themselves. Instead, they can request a ‘basic disclosure’ from Disclosure Scotland (you don’t have to be from Scotland to do this).

DBS can only be requested by an employer. If that's not an option then an individual can request a basic disclosure from from Disclosure Scotland. Details are here.

However, I'm not sure what value it would have for somebody going overseas to work.

I think the agency organising the volunteers will set up access to the drb check.
If not, there's nothing to stop your daughter going along and signing up to any teaching employment agency locally , paying her £44, Inputting her details and getting a portable drb check this way. She will get a paper copy and also registered agencies can access her check.

A enhanced DBS is only relevant in the uK- so unsure why an overseas role would require one.
