My husband and I have decided to separate after 22 years of marriage we have a 21 year old disabled daughter and a 17 year old son who has 1 1/2 years left at 6th form.
we have a interest only mortgage of £150,000 with 20 years left to run, it used to be just £50,000 but we remortgaged a few years ago we have an endowment policy for £50,000 which matures in 2018 which we will split 50/50.We have had our house valued this week it's worth £330,000. I wish to stay in the home and can afford to pay the mortgage myself as we have a very low interest rate with my children, and my husband is happy to leave. So we have about £170,000 in equity my husband says I can buy him out for £70,000 and I would theoretically get £100,000 worth of equity. Luckily we have £240,000 worth of savings between us so I can pay him off and have £50,000 in savings. Does this sound fair? My husband has always taken care of the finances so I haven't really got a clue but am a quick learner! I am worried about not having a big enough endowment to pay off the mortgage but my main concern is keeping a roof over my children's head and not making to many changes for my daughter, my husband says that if I pay more each month the mortgage will come down and in 20 years time I can downsize or pay a large chunk off with my savings he also says it's not worth doing this yet as interest rates are so low our mortgage payments are only £150 a month. Any advice gratefully received Thanks

As stated above, get legal advice. Wikivorce is a good place to start to give you an idea of the possibilities of financial settlement. The assets from the marriage need to be divided fairly and that includes any pensions. In my divorce, the whole house was transferred to me and my ex retained a greater portion of the pensions and shares. Do not agree to any division until you have taken advice on it.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060
