New bank account sorted

This time last week I had the judge's stamp put on my bankruptcy
Today I kept my appointment with Barclays and the girl was lovely, she gave me an account number and sort number with a letter. My debit card is to follow.
As I was already bankrupt and showed her the paper, it will not be touched, the only thing I cannot have is a cheque book or online banking. I never use cheques any more but the online banking will be a pain for the next year, however, not as much of a pain as no bank. I can use my debit card as normal but there is no overdraft and I will be charged a fee if I try to get money or use the card with zero in the account. I am really thrilled and have to thank everyone for all the info that made this an easy exercise. When I got home I rang the pensions and all my money is now going to be paid into it asap, I can even have direct debits and pay my bills online like I always have. :j Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone.
Waiting now for the forms from the OR telling me what paperwork to send back for my telephone meeting next week. Dreading it.

Hi Charybdis
Pleased to hear that so far everything appears to have gone reasonably smoothly. I hope that will give you the confidence not to fear the worst from next week's telephone interview - any paperwork you're asked for will likely be mundane stuff like bank statements and bills.
The fact that it's to be done by phone would suggest that the OR doesn't expect it to be messy or complicated.

Thank you for that and yes it has gone smoother than I thought. I think probably like most I am dreading OR going through my bank statement. He has requested it for 12 months and my fear is that it will be a case of if you can afford this then you can pay and also asking things that I will not be able to remember. I only have my state pension and pension credit but he may say I can do some cut backs that I know I cannot afford but would he? Frightening time I expect for most in this position, it is good to get support from here.

Hi again
If you're solely reliant on state benefits, then you should not be asked to hand over any disposable income. So the question of cutbacks is very unlikely to even arise.
Have a good weekend!

At Barclays - although you can't have internet banking - you can have text alerts for large deposits and debits and a weekly text balance. I also found that if you go into the branch and ask - you can have weekly paper statements. I found that between getting a statement in the post on a Monday (Fridays balance) and a balance text midweek I didn't have to go to the hole in the wall all the time to find out my balance.
I thought losing my internet banking would be a nightmare but with no debts to juggle - I soon found I didn't miss it half as much as I thought I would

Thank you, but I do not have a mobile phone.
Odd in todays world but true, I had one for a short time but gave it up a couple of years ago. I am not so far from an ATM that getting a balance would be a real problem, just still waiting for my card as I do not know where my money went but that is the least of my problems at the moment. I suppose that it is unlikely that the OR will make me pay but there is nothing that says they legally can not as far as I can tell - just hope my luck holds out. I certainly feel much, much better. I timed the BR just after I paid my rent and utilities so that I would have a month to sort everything out and keep it all up-to-date as I dread anything like that going into arrears and I find it heart-breaking when people have those problems and always pray they are dealt with the utmost sympathy.
I thought that seemingly permanent knot in my stomach was from my cancer treatment but it was worry as it has mostly gone, just flares up thinking about the telephone meeting  and the Council. Thank you, TheGardener :A you have given me hope and help."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0 -

Hi again Charybdis
I should have posted the following excerpt in my previous post but was rushing at the time! And yesterday was spent recovering from the London Marathon...
https://www.insolvencydirect.bis.gov.uk/freedomofinformation/technical/TechnicalManual/Ch25-36/Chapter31/part7/Annex%20A.htm
More specifically part 3 which states:
"As a matter of public policy, official receivers should not seek an IPA, or IPO, where the bankrupt's sole source of income is state benefits. No calculation of real disposable income need be made in such cases."
I hope that makes it more definitive for you!

Bunch of people on here have said cashplus is a good option. I am BR and use a Barclays account and a Cashplus account. I think Cashplus is brilliant tbh. It gives you online banking, it's easy to use and you can make payments, buy online, set up direct debits. Works fine. I just use my Barclays to pay in cheques (can't do that to cashplus.) I recommend it if you're happy with pying £4.95 a month which I am more than happy to pay to have online banking.0

Thank you Dennis, that is a help, I suppose when you are at the sharp end it always looks and feels at its worst. It is the 'should not' that I focus on, 'should' seems to give options. I expect it will be alright, just need to keep my strength up, anxiety down and focus on the positives I have so far.

Thank you DrMoosePLC. I have Barclays but as of yesterday when I checked at an ATM there is nothing in there. I will wait until Friday and check again and then ring my old bank and ask for my money if it has gone in there, I should get it. The pensions said the change of payments may be delayed because of the Bank holiday and it will already be in the system, whatever all that means but it will come right in the end.
The cash card sounds very interesting and when this initial part is over I will certainly look into it. I can pay direct debits and pay online with my visa card with Barclays, just not have online banking for a year."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0
