I would definitely recommend free hosting from Freehosting.com
I've been using them for about 4 months, now, after having problems with my old free hosting on and off for a while. Not had any problems with the new one at all. Their cPanel implementation works nicely, and apart from a tricky set-up for Filezilla, everything else has been plain-sailing.0 -
Free hosting is truely not worth ..I have tried it in the past and had lots of issues. since then move to paid hosting.0

The main difference now is having access to technical support or not. If you are reasonably confident in using cPanel, and if the services of the free hosting company are reliable, then there is no reason not to use free hosting.
However, professional paid hosting can be obtained starting at £10 or thereabouts per year, so free hosting may not be a huge saving.
FreeVirtualServers is quite good. It's £13 per year, not free, but their technical people are helpful, and easy to get hold of.0
