Best option for making use of tax free allownaces

This error on our part was prompted by an email from the SIPP provider along the lines of 'make the most of your SIPP allowances' and 'act before April 5th'. Well when they talk about a SIPP allowance, the uninitiated like myself, assumes it is a similar thing to the annual ISA allowance so when they say 'Use up to three years of unused allowances', I took it at face value. Very misleading. I had intended all along that my wife should make the contribution in the current tax year but after she got that email thought, oh well, thats Ok then she hasn't paid in anything for the past three years; must have lots of unused allowances! It's a minefield.0 -
Yes, I'm sure that she won't be the only person caught out by thinking that it's like the ISA allowance, particularly with promotions like that which may not even have mentioned that the earned income takes precedence.
If they try to charge for this, I suggest that she complains about the promotion which misled her.0
