Flubit.com and VAT

Incase you don't know how Flubit works - you find a price on Amazon.co.uk and they go to other retailers to see if they can beat it. If they can, you buy from the other retailer, but use Flubit's payment system.
Ok, so acouple days ago I ordered something that cost £40, and that's the amount they charged my debit card. Now today, I've just received an invoice from the retailer who supplied the item which values the order at £48. (£40 + £8 VAT)
What's going on here? Do they expect me to pay the VAT seperately? Or has Flubit paid it for me?
