Question about sewing...

Hello,
I do not enjoy sewing so I do as little as I can get away with, just repairs mostly. However, once a year I alter all my children's long sleeved t shirts into short sleeved ones for the summer. This is a tedious job as I try to do it very carefully so they don't look altered.
Is there a small cheap machine that is good just for this purpose? Or any tips that you use when hemming to make the job quicker please?

May be put some lace or ric rac around the neck and sleeve edge? Have a look at youtube, search for invisible hem to see if you can get some tips.Loving the sunny days!0

Have you tried a hemming foot for your current machine? Much cheaper than a whole machine. It takes a bit of practice to start with, but they do work; my narrow hems have got a whole lot neater!Angie - GC Sept 25: £405.15/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Maybe find someone who has an overlocking machine and ask them for a bulk price? They're the best thing to use on stretchy fabrics. If you can find a friend that has one you could maybe job swap. A lot of people hate ironing for instance?0

Are you sure with the price of t shirts that altering them is the best mse solution? Similarly with the sort of weather we get here, having an option of short and long sleeves all the year round is useful.0
