Go with brokers rates or try a high street bank?

Other half is a contractor, we have been in contact with a broker and he has sorted our AIP and we are just going deciding which mortgage to apply for. He has suggested ....
Skipton Building society, 2 year discount.
1.75%,
4.99% after 2 year discount

When I key in the house purchase price and the amount we want to borrow there are loads more better offers than this.

He assures me this broker is a whole market broker (Power Mortgages)

I earn £21k per yr and he is a contractor, his company earned average of £95k each year in the last 3 years.

We are only looking to borrow £100k for a house purchase price of £300k.

Do we need to go through a broker? Will high-street lenders refuse us a mortgage?

We have had an offer accepted on a house with a rough date of entry mid-June, is it too late to approach a bank now?

Any advice welcome thanks!

No requirement to go through a broker.

Skipton have had relatively good rates recently but if you feel you can beat what your broker is suggesting have the conversation with them - there could be a valid reason why they have not recommended those deals.

If they are truly whole of market there should be no reason why they can not get the deal you are finding (unless its HSBC/First direct).

With mid June the "potential" move date, you have suitable time to shop around. Select the deals you think are better and discuss with your broker, and ask for reasons why Skipton have been selected
