In Scotland, do you need to make sure your solicitor is on lenders panel?

I dont really know what it means, but I have read of ensuring your solicitor is on the lenders panel.
I am in Scotland.
Hubby is a contractor and we have a mortgage broker.
He is going to fire off some figures tomorrow then we will make the full mortgage application. I am sure hubby said Skipton was coming out as the recommended lender.
So do I have to check to see if my lawyer is on their panel? What if they are not? What does it all mean? Many thanks!!

Many lenders have a preferred panel of conveyancers, that they want you to use. Your broker can obtain the details of solicitors via Skipton, or if you have your own solicitors you can ask your broker to see if they are already on the panel, many of the leading firms are. If not on the panel and you really want to use alternative, you may have to pay some disbursements to the lender - its worth obtaining list from lender and ringing around for the best quote, as they all don't charge the same fees!!I am a mortgage broker.
