Mortgage Lenders and Employment Checks

How often do mortgage lenders contact employers nowadays and when in the process of buying do they contact them? What do they ask?

I'm a first time buyer and want to be really prepared

    Depends on the lender and your scenario.
    Some do it as a matter of course, others do it as and when they want to clarify something.

    Dont worry about it, maybe just assume they will get in touch and if they do not, its a bonus?
