    Thanx jo1sexykitten! I will check 'trainingrus' out for CeMap 2 & 3 ~ BLUroma
  • I studied CeMAP 1 solid for 2 weeks and passed first time. One of the trainees in my branch was taking it last week and I picked up the manual and had forgotten how hard it was and how irrelevant much of it is to day to day mortgage advice. They failed twice and passed third time. Good luck.

AWWWW!!! THANX FOR YOUR KIND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. Everyone here has been great & it feels good to have so much support from people in the industry. I'll be studying real hard for the next 2 weeks...YAHOO!!! Thanx to everyone for taking time out of your busy schedules to help me out. I grately appreciate it!!! ~ BLUroma
  • I also used training r us and found them to be very good and have got to agree that their instructors are really good made the whole course very interesting and helped make the course work easier than i thought it would be. I passed all three parts first time btw.
  • Having just failed CEMAP 1 this morning for the third time, I can certainly sympathise with the points made here.
My biggest gripe is that the test questions are absolutely unrelated to those on the CDT CD Rom, although the IFS assured me that all of the training materials were developed at the same time so somebody must be playing tricks on us. It's also frustrating that I too can score high 90-100% in the CD rom tests but not the exam itself? All I would ask for is a clear directive on which material is the most relevant to study but the IFS seem unable to provide this.
I'd also question why a non-profit Charity organisation like the IFS charge £100 per resit?
This morning I failed Unit 1 of CEMAP 1 (having passed Unit 2 at the first attempt). I gained 34 marks out of the 35 needed.

I feel I am learning well via the training manual (running through it with a highlighter pen has increased my percentages greatly) and would completely disregard the CD rom as a very expensive waste of time (unless you can get it for free like I did as working for a major lender has it's perks). I found the revision notes guidebook to be useful but believe that working through the manual itself again and again is key.
I believe it's all about remembering the manual itself rather than using any degree of skill, ability or general knowledge and understand that CEMAP 1 is practically useless in a mortgage advisory role anyway :-)

PS I could also do with some help to memorise things so if anybody has any suggestions then it would be greatly appreciated!

YAHOO. . .PASSED CEMAP UNIT 1 RE-SIT TODAY. . .YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FEELS FANTASTIC, WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT. . .FOR ME ANYWAY. I've never done anything like this before, ever in my whole life. Finally get to start studying CeMap 2 now. Definitely going to take a course this time, waiting for a call back from Training-R-Us to find out their next schedule. It was way to hard doing by home study. Took way too long. I'm sure it will be better interacting with other people as well instead of doing it in isolation. Thanx for everyone's comments! ~ BLUroma

  • Hi, I have been reading everyone's comments, I have my CeMap 1 exam mid may and absoutely cacking myself! I originally started studying at work who sponsered me, but I left and had to pay back, but originally didn't get the competence tool.
I have heard from others that this it is good, however as per your comments it is not relevant to the real exam. Not sure if this would be a good idea to shell out the money to buy it if it is not that good. Or does anyone have one second hand they could sell to me? Help!

    Thanks!

Have a look on Ebay, you often find CeMAP stuff on there.

Please dont take this the wrong way, but if you have failed CeMAP1 three times are you sure this is the right career path for you?

Im not saying its easy, but this business isnt something you can just "learn" to do through taking an exam. Whilst you dont use the full content of CeMAP1 in everyday work, the exams are set in a certain way for a reason. Your comment of them being "practically useless" really shows that you havent really understood what the module is all about and its relevance. You would be suprised how much of the content you actually need when you have clients sat in front of you.

Just reading it, trying to memorise it and use the memor to pass the exam is not what its about. You need the knowledge to apply to everyday work, not just to get you a piece of paper and then forget about it.

You could take the exam 10 times and pass on the last attempt, but that doesnt mean you will suceed in the industry. Im really not trying to be rude, but its a tough market at the moment and I just think it may be an idea for you to seriously think about if its really right for you.
