Mortgage and Underwriting

Hi,

I have an initial application go through and got offered 142k instead of the 148.5k I needed.

I spoke to work and they gave me a rise and I had a letter to this effect, supplied this to the broker and on to the lender (Santander) a week ago.

I have heard back today that they are not happy with the letter as it is addressed to "Whom it may concern" and not to me but references me, my old salary and new salary.

Are they just being picky for pickys sake, and should the broker have picked this up?

I would not have picked this up because I have never had it happen

However, its not uncommon for underwriters to want letters addressed to someone. A lot of lenders want gifted deposit letters to be address to the lender rather than just anyone.

    My mantra is

Give the lenders what they want , how they wont it, or you wont get the money.

Do not concern yourself with whether you agree with them.

If someone was being awarded a pay rise then you'd expect the letter to be addressed to them personally. As in an official notification. Washy wording such as to Whom it May Concern doesn't sound official in the slightest. More akin to doing you a favour so that you can get your mortgage.
  • Thanks for the replies, my work emailed me an update to say it has risen and wrote me a letter for the mortgage as a reference.

They have now written a new letter stating the rise officially was made due to additional responsibilities and have addressed this to me in person.

I am now just keeping my fingers and toes crossed, this has been going on since the 7th!
