I have taken a long winding road towards better health and eating and have now been following a close to Paleo diet for almost a year.. Does anyone else do this? If so, how do you keep the cost down? We eat a lot of chicken and fish (I don't eat red meat but my kids do sometimes), free range chicken and wild fish are so much more expensive but are recommended and I prefer to use it.
Can anyone recommend any reasonabe online suppliers? Particularly for nitrate free bacon and gammon?

Hi I buy my meat from https://www.musclefood.com they do brilliant deals on their website and for new customers, they also do deals via Feed You Family for £20 a Week on Facebook and via Twitter.
I am veggie and I eat mostly vegan meats and raw snacks I get my ingredients in bulk from Wholefoods online or from Amazon

I've just recently heard of them, is the meat good? I recently got an order in from a different online company and im not too impressed by the chicken.
I dont have a diet style, but i do follow as much as i can with Paleo/GAPS/Caveman/Natural as possible within this modern world
I tend to juice a bit just now as i am trying to lose weight as quickly and safely as i can to help me for running in tough mudder this year. I have Jason Vales books and apps to help me with the juicing, its normally mainly breakfast and lunch i will juice for and have meat and veg for dinner, cut out a lot of sugars, and dont eat as much crap as i used too (ive never been big on bread, but pasta was a staple when i was extremely skint, we have it maybe once a month or two now, compaired to nearly 5 times a week back then!)
I always shop from a butcher - just past year ive started to branch out into online butchers, because my butcher is 4 villages away and really expensive, but most of his meat comes from his farms up in the north of scotland, his chicken is free range etc, but i need to be a bit more economical , although because i dont buy as much crap, my food budget hasnt changed much, just what it is being spent on.
So my tip is, get to know your butcher, find out best ways to cook the meats, and decide how paleo u are aiming to be (most that iread aim for 80/20).
fb group Paleo-UK is good, nom nom paleo gets recommended a lot as a great starter cookbook/info - i havent read yet so cant comment myself
It has taken me years to get to where i am with my diet (i hate that word) I know know what helps me and what hinders me, also what brands work for me and whats ones dont, take it slow, and change one or two things at a time so it becomes habit and ur purse gets used to the price difference before adding more in

Muscle Food are great, the delivery is quick and reliable - the steaks - according to my family are the best that they have had and the chicken has no added water and it stays moist- I have a voucher that i can send to you for 2.5kgs of free chicken if you would like to try it although i am sure that there is a minimum spend associated with the voucher - good to combine it with their starter deal there is one on Groupon at the moment. Plus you really need an empty drawer in the freezer I order the 5kg packs of chicken 13 large breasts which need to be divided into portions!DMP 2021-2024: £30,668 £0 🥳

Thanks, MuscleFood doesn't sell free range chicken that I can see, and most of the bacon is Danish and at best packed in Britain. Pricewise it is great but I would prefer to eat less and pay more if needed.
LolaLemon, NomNom Paleo is a great book, I use it lots, along with Paleo Every Day by Pete Evans.. i just need to find a way to bulk buy more of the ingredients.
I do use Amazon and sometimes Costco for the things like Coconut Oil, Cider Apple Vinegar and nuts and seeds but I do have to be very careful as it's amazing what rubbish the manufacturers try to put in some of these lovely natural things!0 -
I just found out last night that the butcher i go to delivers! I'm soo blind haha, bet there are lots of posters up in the shop too. http://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/
I'm a wee bit disappointed, the site doesnt mention his farm, maybe he sold that part on, but the meat still comes from Orkney (mostly).
He has put up a small recipe section tho
Think i need to invest in this Nom Nom book, everyone seems to recommend it. I just need to get rid of all the carp out of my house first, hopefully make some money from it to be able to justify spending more money hahaLiving Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb
