ipad mini cashback?

My mum wants me to order her an ipad mini

Any idea of the best place to get it regarding rewards or cashback?

I've only come up with Tesco so far, I think it's 1.5% and clubcard points

Is there anything better?

John Lewis is the best currently as pointed out above but I'd sincerely recommend against buying that configuration.

That's the iPad mini 3 and it's the same as the iPad mini 2 but for the fingerprint Touch ID. But beyond that it's the 16Gb model and they are essentially useless beyond consuming content (I have one). If your mum wants to keep content on the iPad it will be full in no time and as we saw last year will be compromised when it comes to having enough RAM to upgrade to the next version. I don't mean won't be able to run, I mean carry out the upgrade process without dumping her data.

My recommendation would be to go for a mini 2 32Gb model or if you can afford it the mini 3 64Gb. The mini 2 seems to get discounted by some retailer (Currys/PC World etc) almost monthly now.

I was abit confused by the specs of the 1, 2 and 3

I think she wants it mainly for looking at photos etc

I don't think she even knows what she will use it for

She asked me to order it so that I could get the cashback, but it seems there are not any good cashback deals around

Well I hope this helps: the differences are mostly about processor and screen,

the mini 1 has a "non-retina" screen, marketing term for lower resolution and a very old processor launched in 2011 but kept alive to make the non-retina model look like a bargain.

the mini 2 & 3 are absolutely identical in "retina" screen (IMO definitely worthwhile especially for photo viewing) but differ only in Touch ID and the amount of RAM they have. The mini 2 has up either 16 or 32Gb and the mini 3 16/64/128Gb. They both have the same 2013 A7 processor and more than adequate.

Only the larger iPad Air 2 has a newer processor.

Generally these devices are revised every October, but a mini 2/3 will serve for many years if my experience of Apple products is anything to go by. I'll be buying a mini 2 soon I hope.

It's a minor point but Apple reveals their latest quarterly results next Monday and while they won't announce discounts etc you may see more bubble up after that. Sadly shops are incentivised to discount only the 16Gb generally but can also offer the mini 2.

The best chance is to watch the big retailers (Tesco, Currys, Argos etc) for their £30/50/? off promotions and buy the model you like.

If your mum wants to keep those photos on her iPad then a higher capacity one is essential.
