How much for retirement?

I'd concentrate on getting a house first of all, and then the pension. Just having your own house will save you a fortune in rents on retirement. Don't get one that is too expensive though or Liebore will hit you with their notorious 'mansion' tax.

I'm currently early retired on under 10K, RPI index linked (min 3%), but with the state pension will be comfortably off in a few years. How much you need will obviously depend on your lifestyle and of course what the state pension will be worth, if anything
, when you retire. 0 -
You get a double whammy when you "over-save" during your employment life for your retirement. You painfully deflate your disposable income and therefore reduce your working life lifestyle whilst paying out more than you really want, whilst increasing your lifestyle in retirement. The latter coming up to meet the former.
The more you save during your non-retirement years therefore the less you will likely have the terrible shock that all the other overspending duffers will have. You will feel very very smug.
