Still waiting for taste of soap to go from my mouth

First time I've had this and it started a few days ago.

I've been waiting it out for it to go, but it hasn't yet...

Checked out re cause and found that fluoride seems to be most likely cause (its not that - as I don't use fluoride in my toothpaste) and dental health problems (not likely - as my last check-up was a few weeks back and I passed it okay).

What has anyone else done to get rid of that soap taste in mouth please?

Have you eaten anything with coriander in recently? That can taste soapy to some people.

I had some pesto a while ago and I thought there was something seriously wrong with it - it was like washing up liquid in my mouth. But my OH was eating the same meal as me and it tasted delicious to him!

Has your tap water had fluoride added?
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

Fluoride is tasteless and does not give a soapy taste. You really should be using a toothpaste with it in!!
However a very common cause of a persistent soapy taste is pine nuts. Particularly Chinese pine nuts. Have you eaten anything with pinenuts in recently ?

It can take from a few days to a few weeks to go http://www.thekitchn.com/strange-but-true-bitter-aftert-116700

I understand that people have got either coriander tastebuds or non coriander tastebuds. I've got the non coriander tastebuds myself - so I avoid it, as I know it will taste soapy to me. So I know that's not the problem.

I've not heard of them doing it. Its Welsh Water if anyone is wondering/has heard they recently have. Its my understanding that its okay, ie non-fluoridated.
  • I've heard of pinenut syndrome and cant recall the last time I had any actually...definitely not recently.

First noticed just after I cleaned my teeth a few days ago and I thought I might have turned sensitive overnight to my home-made toothpaste - so swopped to a health food store non-fluoride one and still experiencing this.

Fluoride is both odourless and tasteless. Many "health" store fluoride free toothpastes use thymol or similar for "antiseptic" purposes and this can taste soapy.

A persistent soapy taste may be a reaction to many common flavourings such as cinnamon, coriander etc , however very rarely it can also be associated with other medical problems. If in doubt consult your doctor.
