I got a medical for a potential job

Basically I am going to be working nights and need a medical for the working time directive. I am very worried. I not the fittest guy around. I have to do a eye sight test, hearing test and various other tests.

Has anyone had to pass a medical for their job? How was it?

I had one years ago. It was just weight, height, urine test (they didn't say what they tested it for), checking in my ears, listened to my chest, lung capacity test, any allergies etc.

    It depends on the job.

I know I'd fail a medical for the army. I'd also fail to become an airline pilot (my eyesight isn't good enough). But for most jobs I'd be fine.

So long as you're fit enough to do the actual job, the fact you're "not the fittest guy around" shouldn't matter.

Basically I am a bit worried about what I should wear for the medical. Suit? tracksuit? Should I email the person and find out?

Can't hurt and you could ask what the medical involves and put your mind at rest.

Contact them and ask. Suit may be not the most comfortable thing but it also depends on the type of tests they are going to perform.
    ally.
  • Employers often require a medical not to assess your fitness to do the job, but to ascertain a baseline of your fitness level/any medical conditions. They then have this on record should your health deteriorate (or not) so that any claim in the future can be mitigated.

I asked and was told to wear comfortable clothes, so was thinking smart shirt and jeans acceptable?
