Finding out who you owe

Options
This is going to sound so stupid but over the years I have been very reckless single the age of 18 I'm now 34 I have had various phones contracts and store cards that I have never paid back and as a result my credit score is well not worth mentioning I have since got a mobile on contract which I'm paying for now and also a vanquis card which I also pay but I have no idea of what or who I owe money to and how to go about paying debts I don't get any demand letters etc but I'd like to put my self right and improve my life and credit

  • If some creditors are from over 6 years ago they will have become statute barred. I don't exactly know what that means but they will have fallen off your credit file.

As for the ones that still remain on there, go to Experian or the like and request a full report. Checkmyfile.com is pretty good and shows you everything. Good luck.

Have you moved at all in recent years ?

Have you checked your credit reports ?

Unless you are contacted in writing about any of these debts, there's little else you can do, if there are more than 6 years without contact, then they would be statute barred anyway, and you would not have to pay them.

Yeah like Sourcrates says, leave well alone, unless they come to you.
After 6 years clean they'll be gone and then you can rebuild your credit life.

If you feel guilty, put the money to one side that you would be able to pay, and then if they come calling, you'll have a fund, and if they don't, treat someone special or donate it to charity.
