I would stress the should here. In my experience the interest does tend to get stopped at some point (our main feedback is from people on a DMP with us, so it may be a slightly optimistic view). It can be stopped by the creditor or once it’s been sold or passed onto a DCA. Creditors are not obliged to stop interest, unfortunately, but if it continues unreasonably there may be a case for complaint, and if it gets to a CCJ then you could look at defending part of the claim. From our point of view we will continue to ask, if someone is on a DMP with us, that interest is stopped, for as long as it takes.I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt.
