O/S Daily Sunday 19th April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

    Now light, cloudy and overcast.

Menfolk still all asleep, I’m enjoying a first peaceful cuppa of the day.

Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway – we really should not have had that but DH was moaning about every meal I suggested so I just said we’ll have takeaway then – they are excellent from that takeaway but expensive, so won’t be going down that route again. We hadn’t had a takeaway for ages and hadn’t really missed it. I need to plan better for the weekends. I have remembered to get some pork steaks out of the freezer last night to defrost, I will cook them in the oven with some stock and veg, then use the stock to make some gravy, I will serve mash, carrots and pan fried cabbage to go with it. We’ll have that later on this afternoon.

Yesterday we got the jobs done that we wanted to and visited both sets of parents. Today we’re going to my parents as my bro and sis in law are visiting, and we’re having a brunch.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning

Thank you nmic for starting today's thread

Very overcast here and I understand not likely to improve much. I have some baking to do today because we have NO CAKE, a dreadful state of affairs.

Had a busy day yesterday, we took DGS to the Bank, now that he is 18, to change the account we took out for him when he was 2, just into his name. He is lovely lad and I am sure he will be sensible with the money.

Popped into Ik*a for a few bits and then took him to Piz*a Hut for lunch, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Hugs to all needing one and especially to poorly DHs

    Hve a good day

  • Morning one and all, I hope the poorly DH's are picking up. After a cloudy start yesterday we ended up with wall to wall blue sky and sun all day. Of course that meant I didn't get half my list of jobs done and I ended up sitting in the garden reading all afternoon! Today is cloudy again but not set to improve by the sound of it, so it will be back to my job list! A big pile of ironing for starters.

Made the promised big fish pie yesterday and Mr TA wolfed it down. Surprisingly there is still some left so that's one meal today covered. Probably lunch. Might get out some chicken to defrost and do Hunter's Chicken for tonight as not done it for ages and we both enjoy it.

Have a good day all and hope there's a bit of sun where you are! xx

    Morning :hello:

I don't mind admitting – Scampi has completely worn me out :rotfl: My feet hurt so I've been paying them extra attention with foot files and body butter. My hip is aching a lot lately, the muscles around it are slowly building back up to normal (from all the walking) so it's a good thing, it just doesn't feel like it at the moment. I thought I was almost there a while ago – apparently not :D

Family on my dad's side have been summoned by a distant relative visiting from Canada to attend a party that we all have to pay for! We have to let her know what food we intend to bring so she can check that no-one's doubled up and there's a good selection. Half of us have never even met her. Suddenly, we're 'family'. My first thought was “where was your card/phone call for my cousin, when his baby died two minutes after being born?” That was years ago and it was the first thing that popped into my head. Instant anger from me, and a big fat no to the 'invitation'. I've had a few phone calls asking what I'm doing and it seems no-one is intending to go, I think they were relieved to find out that I felt the same :D Usually, when there's something going on, we all get on each other's nerves by ringing each other offering help with lifts, food, drink, etc. but we will not tolerate being ordered about :naughty: Next saturday, I won't be at some fake, happy families thing - I will be relaxing on the sofa, with the dog, watching a film :D

It's quite cool here this morning, I'll attempt some greenhouse work. It's very slow-going when little paws feel the need to help :D I'm getting there and everything is still alive, so that's OK :D The broad beans and sweetcorn have made it to the veg patch – a bit later than I'd like but they seem happy enough. We have a few cabbages and a couple of caulis ready to pick and freeze. I completely forgot about my salad seeds so will get them sorted today, I have some rocket on the go though.

    Morning everyone.

Another sunny day ahead I hope. Sky is clear, birds are twittering and, so far, all's well here.

Did the log store yesterday and brought in all the leftover spruce, it's all little bits and pieces which will be fine for these spring evenings. There's plenty left in the big barn too.

Had a trip up to Oban yesterday too, just a little bit if shopping which wasn't too successful so I'll have to get down to Glasgow next week. Then I too sat outside in the sun and took a book. The front faces south which meant I just basked in heat. I closed my eyes and even nodded off for a wee bit.

Tru - all that walking will be good for you when you get used to it. And Scampi brings so much into your life, it's lovely to read about him and 'watch' him grow in confidence. Quite right about the party, sounds outrageous by any standard.

TA - I hate ironing and stopped doing it years ago! The only items which get ironed are OHs work shirts and he does them himself. Whilst I really love climbing into freshly ironed crisp bedding I really find the pleasure is taken out when I've spent ages over a steam iron.

There's chicken thighs in the fridge and some bacon dangerously close to BBD along with cream cheese, I feel a concoction coming up.

Hope everyone has sun and a happy day too.

    Morning All

And what a morning, warm and sunny already. Yesterday warmed up nicely in the afternoon but was quite chilly although very sunny. I have the other settee's covers on the line, hoping they are dry today.

I'm back to work tomorrow so going to make the most of this last day off, I got into a book yesterday when I was sat outside so may just have to finish that today!

tru - Don't you just love families? Good to hear Scampi is enjoying himself, hope your legs feel normal soon.

DD has taken the car today as she's going over to a friends after work so if I need anything I will walk or cycle, I enjoyed my bike ride to the shoe shop yesterday, just far enough when I haven't really been out on my bike for a while.

Hope you all enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX

    Morning all
We had a lovely afternoon yesterday, DD came over with her 4 youngest, the oldest was at work, he's training to be a chef, such a difference to the 14 year old drug addict that arrived 3 years ago.
The older 2 did gardening with hubby & played games, the babies crawled around, & had lots of cuddles.
A quieter day today, we've had a big cooked breakfast & that will see us through until about 4 or 5 when we'll have a roast dinner.
Hubby is cleaning the fish tank & will do gardening later, I have washing in the machine & another load to go on & then I will spend some time upstairs sorting yarn & fabric, I'm hoping to make a carrier bag holder later.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) if you need one.

Bit misty here at the moment, having a 'long lie' after the few days I have had. Brought brekkie up and now reading. OH is ok, yesterday was a bad morning, toys out the pram, it is not something I like doing but if I don't he would lead me a dogs life for ever. I have seen far too often the carer going out the door feet first and have no intention of doing it myself.

Had a message from my Daughter, apparently DGD's boyfriend wrote off his car last night, thankfully she was not with him. He took himself off to hospital to get checked out. He must have been going too fast, his car was a Volvo estate and they take some writing off!!!

    Morning all,

Beautiful sunny day here got OH work clothes on the line and have stripped the bed and got that on the go in the wm should all dry well today.

Went onto waitrose yesterday and they had some beautiful Mediterranean china on offer so we bought a huge blue and white salad bowl a jug and two small bowls in the same, I got £10 off for using my waitrose card, its really beautiful and I cant wait for the summer to use them.

Not sure about dinner today OH and I went out to a local caf! for lunch yesterday and it did us most of the day so we did not have the burgers for dinner so might have them today.

Going to hoover upstairs and clean the bathroom today and then have a rest this afternoon.

I hope the DH's are ok today xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all,

Get well vibes for poorly DHs.
Its cool and dull here.Been out with Lyla & met a friend so we walked a bit further as we were chatting, only tend to see her at weekend as her DH is retired and walks during the week.I'm really going to miss my dogwalking buddies when we move at the end of May :o you get used to which dogs are ok if off the lead etc.

Its my DN little boys 4 th birthday today so heading there this afternoon,DH will cut short his renovations on the new house for today,it'll do him good to have a break as he's working evenings after work and weekends at the mo.

Not sure if there's any food on at DNiece's so have stuck a joint of beef in the slow cooker. We can always have a hot beef sandwich when we get back later and use the rest tomorrow.

I need to pick up a hairdye today so I can do it tomorrow before DGS arrives for his overnight stay.My hair desperately needs a cut so rang my hairdresser and he's rented his shop out & gone mobile'so he's going to come here on Wednesday.

DS1 has been helping me transfer everything to this new laptop but I want to do a final check on the old one before DS2 takes it to his new house. His broadband is being activated on Tuesday so I think he'll move the rest of his stuff then.

Right better do a few jobs before we go out this aft- have a good day x
