Moving into a DMP household

Options
Hi,

Need some advice please...

A relative is moving back in with her parents for various reasons. She does not have a permanent job at the moment but is earning as a supply teacher.

Her hours and earnings are variable especially around holiday times which is the main reason she is moving back home. Her parents intend on charging her minimal "board and lodgings" while she gets back on her feet and hopefully finds a permanent job.

Her father had some issues some years ago and is now on debt management plan managed by one of the main charities.

He is worried about the impact of his daughter moving home will be on his DMP, even though he is trying to help his daughter out.

Will there be any impact or need to advise the DMP charity?

She is also worried about her credit rating/ access to credit given she will be living in a house with a relative on a DMP (same initial and surname). Will this have any impact?

Thanks

Simple, don't tell them, a DMP is an informal agreement, there are no rules to be bound by, and no restrictions, her dad should not have the slightest problem, it's no one else's business who lives in his house.

Debts are not attached to houses, or addresses, only the person who owes the debt, there will be no impact at all, relax !!!!

  • There won't be any effect on council tax but the parents may notice increases in spending on electricity, gas, water (if metered) and food (if feeding her). If they are on any means tested benefit, she is a 'non-dependant' and needs to be declared to council, DWP etc. There may be an effect.

Provided her 'rent' covers this, no problem. If it exceeds this, I suggest that the parents save the excess in a separate fund with a view to doing full & final settlements somewhere down the line and bring their dmp to a close.
