Ex husband has stopped paying child support

Hi All,

Hoping someone can advise me!

The last payment I received from csa was in February. When I didn't get anything in March I called csa and they told me my ex had stopped payment and they would have someone from their collections dept contact him.

After three weeks of waiting I called them to be told they had had a call from my ex. He had told them he had lost his job and expected to be paid to the end of April. When I asked why this would mean he didn't pay for March (and now April) they said they'd call him back and try to get a payment over the phone from him. However, they said that if he refused they would have to wait until he got another job and then add the arrears to the new payments once they had been worked out.

This doesn't seem fair - he will have wages for March and April but can stop paying for his children?

Probably can't be bothered to enforce it because once they got throughout the lengthy process of enforcement he would of finished his job.

I have found enforcement of missed maintenance payments a joke. It's been 5 months of missed payments for me now and nothing has been done.

My daughter's father started working in November. I told the CSA this, along with the name and address of his new employer, as his step-father helpfully told me. The CSA are still "waiting for him to get back to them".

When I complain they tell me they have to give him chance to respond. Given that this will be the 4th time I've had to get them to do a deduction of earnings order for them, you think they would start action a little sooner but no apparently his right to be consulted trumps by daughter's right to receive support from her father. He'll probably have managed to lose the job by the time they can be bothered to use any of the powers to take money from his wages.
