Hi IA, one thing you might want to look into is your local Credit Union for when UC comes in. My one is running a scheme called jam jar accounts, where all your UC goes into the CU and then they pay your rent and any other bills you decide upon and what's left over is then paid into your bank account. That way you won't be tempted to spend money designated for essential bills which is very easy to do when budgets are so tight.
Thanks for that, I had seen a jam jar account advertised by our local cu, but totally misunderstood what it meant, I might look into this again, although I'm not on benefits so maybe they won't do it.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

You need to disassociate your outgoings from your incomings so that it doesn't matter to you on what day each payment comes in. If you haven't already, check out YouNeedABudget (YNAB) which many people really rate for people in siuations such as yours.

Thanks guys. I've been very very fortunate enough that a family member has lent me the money to pay off the credit card and get me back on track. So I now have no consumer credit :T Will be paying them back in manageable chunks over the next few months. So happy! The relief is enormous.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Hi
Credit Unions are not just for peeps who are in debt, I use mine to save for Christmas, and I have the added bonus of knowing my savings can be used for loans, and hopefully keep people on low incomes from using loan sharks.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I'm not personally on benefits but I have two jobs. One I get paid on the 28th of every month (or nearest if it's a weekend) and the other I have to invoice manually. They pay me anything from 10 days to 3 weeks after invoice. It's a logistical nightmare. They have no idea that I desperately need the money to get by, so when it's 2 weeks later than planned it throws me out completely. I've been eating noodles the last week because they haven't paid me0
