I am wanting to go to Oz in Jan (this is when my Working Visa expires) but the only problem i have is saving! Im working full-time and bring home around £700 pm. To this i owe my car loan- £90 which is paid off in Sept, fonebill approx£35 but has been £75 because i was down south and was making calls and my car insurance which is £75.

I also have a £500 overdraft but at the mo currently stands at £1100!!!

Basically what im tryn to ask is if i got a credit card and paid off my overdraft and cancelled the overdraft and just paid my monthly bills but saving between now and Jan cud i leave maybe £100 in my account for the year im away and pay off a minimum payment!!!

Not meaning to be rude, but I think it would probably be more important for you to try to live within your means, and leave going to Australia until you're a little more financially stable.

Re above scenario, when you come back from Oz your debt will have spiralled and you then will be in real trouble.

A Credit Card appears to offer a solution, but beware its the most expensive way to borrow money and will only add to the problem. Being declared bankrupt is not a good way to start out in life!

How do you propose to pay the credit card?

Hi, borrowing from credit union or even bank will be much cheaper than credit card.
Problem with only paying minimum is the debt never really goes down, possibly goes up if you keep using the card. if you are going away could you sell your car and free up some money to pay debts?

Recipe for disaster...!!!....live like a nun til then, only go out 1 evening a week, get part time work, two evenings a week, plus saturday...ie not able to spend.

Get a mate who does hair dressing to do your hair, buy stuff off ebay....strictly no shoes no matter how big the discount......

    Simple formula.......work more...spend less!

Get a second job and sell everything you don't need. Offer to ebay for friends and family for a small fee. Your focus should be on earning the money so you can leave debt free. It's only for a few months. Also can you sell your car?

If you want proper advice though I'd suggest the debt free wannabe board, they really know their stuff over there...
