Cancellation of gym membership.

Hi,
Me and my girlfriend got a joint membership for a gym with North county leisure part of BeAtive Newcastle.
We used it quite a bit but now due to other commitments we have been unable to go and tend to just do our own thing like running outdoor and fitness DVDs.
We need to cut costs and currently pay £60 per month for a gym we aren't using. I have emailed them to cancel I was just wondering as we signed a 12 month contract are we able to cancel this without fees? and does it affect your credit if we did?
Thanks

If you signed a 12 month contract you will be unable to cancel within the 12 months without paying the rest of the contract
If you cancel your direct debit and stop paying, many of the gyms will pass this over to debt collectors
Have you spoken to them and asked what your options are?
What does the contract say about cancelling?0 -
Im not sure, I checked the terms and conditions online and all I can see is that it says you must give 30 days notice. going to ring them and see what they say,.0

Never mind, I rang them and they said I can cancel at any point, panic over
