Hi,
Apologies if this doesn't make sense.
I'm disabled, and struggle dealing with my paperwork . PAs /carers are paid they social services to help. But it's been a nightmare. No one stays long, leaving me in the poop.
I've been trying to do some things on my own, whilst waiting for people to apply for the job. It's all got out of control. I purchased a washing machine at Bright house a couple of weeks ago , as mine died.
My social worker has today given me info for a local money management place . But after crying my heart out to my step mum, I think the only way forward is bankruptcy. Elevating stress , panic, and worry. (All makes my conditions worse).
My question is, if I by some miracle get the money together , I'd like to go bankrupt in a few weeks. What will happen with the Bright House debt?
:-(

Have you returned the goods to Brighthouse or do you still have them?0

Hello baileybear
I should start by saying that we don’t know enough about your situation to say whether bankruptcy is appropriate. You should definitely try to chase up the local advice agency your social worker has mentioned, as there may be other options you’re not aware of. For example, if your debts are below £15,000 and you are not a homeowner, you could be eligible for a Debt Relief Order instead – this has similar effects to bankruptcy but is much cheaper to apply for. More info here:

Re: your Brighthouse agreement
If you were to go bankrupt, the Official Receiver can decide whether to allow you to maintain payments.
Ultimately, though, the decision lies with Brighthouse themselves, as it is likely that the agreement allows them to terminate it automatically in the event of you becoming insolvent (whether through bankruptcy or a Debt Relief Order). If you miss any payments at present, there’s no immediate risk to the item as Brighthouse would still need a court order to physically remove it.
At this stage, while you are still considering your options, it is worth investigating what other help may be available to fund the outright purchase of an alternative washing machine. Please visit the turn2us website which can point you towards charities and trust funds who may be able to assist:

Hope that is some help for now, but please feel free to give more information on here as lots of support and advice is on offer from forum users.

P.S. I have assumed above that you do still have the washing machine!

Hi,
Yes I still have the machine.
Unfortunately when my health first started to deteriorate , I lost my job and became a single parent , all in a short space of time. So approximately 4-5 years ago , I had a DRO .
I'm thinking bankruptcy, as the stress of it all is making my conditions worse. It's so confusing , I need to start again . Hopefully with a decent PA/Carer.
I was hoping to try and get help paying for the bankruptcy , by trying the grant website, (mentioned above). As I don't have the best of luck , I expect it's unlikely I will get any help.
Thank you for your speedy response. I really appreciate it .0 -
Is it just the debt with brighthouse that's causing the problem?
Can you not return the washing machine and get another one?
Presumably you can pick one up from freecycle/ebay/your local charity shop/council run place for people on low income/get a loan from a credit union etc etc?
There must be better options and it's worth exploring them.
Speak to your social worker again, you need proper support putting in place. It sounds like once you have this in place and a regular routine it will help lots and maybe you will be able to think straighter.
How much do you owe? I honestly thing talking to a debt charity to go over your option would be good.
