NRAM from experience will generally accept a payment arrangement for the unsecured part of a together mortgage. For the love of god do not start missing payments on your secured portion because then they become a right old pain in the proverbial and will not hesitate in taking action.

The unsecured portion is the same as any unsecured debt with another company. You cannot make preferential payments to it and it must be treated the same as other unsecured accounts. NRAM know this, but will try and throw their weight around. Ignore it. Let your DMP provider do the legwork. They will usually accept the DMP offer eventually once they get over their humpm and have thrown their toys around a bit.

Had a call this morning from an 0845 no. which I ignored. After doing a Google search I found it's from NRAM's collection department. I paid the secure element of my mortgage last week and told them I was commencing an DMP with Stepchange and could no longer afford to pay the unsecured part. I'm wondering if I did right by ignoring the call? I guess I'll be hounded for a while.

Incidentally, another creditor (Tesco cc) has informed me in writing that they are defaulting me so I guess I should view that as good news? Should I let Stepchange know?

Default is good - yes :) No need that I am aware of to tell SC but someone may pop up and disagree. We didn't tell them about ours. Re NRAM - you may be hounded by them for a bit but SC will deal with them. We have had many conversations with them about NRAM over the years and they are fully aware how difficult they can be. Ultimately they cannot compel you to give more than the share allocated to them for unsecured debt. They may try but SC will allocate payments fairly across all creditors. You are doing well :T

Defaults yes, ,good news, and if they go to DcA they are usually fine with DcA and DMP.

Regards ignoring the call, I work on the principle that if they leave a message, I will call back and attempt to discuss it. When I call them, if they are useless or difficult, I tell them that SC will be in touch and then write to them saying I want contact in writing only. If they don't leave a message, I ignore them, and I only ever answer a number I don't recognise or one that I know is a DcA when I'm in the right frame of mind and a place where it won't matters if I get upset, I.e home alone or parked up in a car park.

Hi All, I know this is a slightly old thread but hopefully you will still see it :-)

Those of you that have the NRAM unsecured loan on a DMP, can I ask if its going ok? I see alot of stuff online about NRAM applying for charging orders and I just wonder how likely this is to happen? If you don't mind, can you tell me how much your payment to them via the DMP is compared to what the payment used to be? Do you have much equity in your property as maybe that's the deciding factor in whether they go for charging order?
    Thanks guys x

I actually didn't include NRAM on our DMP. Not particularly the best route, but I wanted anything to do with my mortgage company clear and safe. x

Yeah that's why I kept it out, as I was worried because it comes out as part of my mortgage, I actually only realised recently that it was an unsecured loan, I always thought it was secured. Another reason I kept it out was because I was hoping for some of the interest back based on the paperwork being incorrect but the court ruling this week has not ruled in our favour. So I am now deliberating over whether to include it. If I thought they would accept it and allow me to pay back with no issues then I would include it but concerned they will get charging order which scares me. Ill keep thinking :-)
