what would you do?

Hello again
I would like to know what you lovely people would do in a similar situation.
I have been put forward for a promotion at work. Apparently i stand a good chance of getting it. It is only temporary with a view to being permanent under certain conditions.
My income would increase significantly. Based on my current situation it would definitely mean a sizeable ipa.
In turn i would work more hours.
More hours for no more financial reward. Only a possible increase in job satisfaction. Possibly a long term career progression move. No guarantees of another opportunity coming up after discharge.
What would you do? I want to change job roles I don't particularly enjoy my current job. It could mean a better future. In fact the rise of income could mean I could rent my own place (which would prevent an IPA but would need to save for a deposit etc....highly unlikely the OR would allow me to do that).
At a bit of a dilemma. Any input, opinions again greatly appreciated.

I think I know what I would do, I would take the promotion if it was offered to me.
You will be no worse off financially, although you won't be better off.
Job satisfaction is not about money, if you are not enjoying your current job and you would enjoy this one more your life will be better (even if you work a bit harder)
The IPA will end, at that point you will be in a better place. If you leave it you will not have moved on.
As for the the rental situation others will be better placed to advise.0 -
Hello
Thanks for your response. I think I feel the same way about it. It's just a shame that I won't be able to reap any of the rewards. But you're right about the job satisfaction I think that means more to me.
In terms of the rental situation... I would be grateful if anyone could put their two pennies worth in. I really want to have my own place And start to live my own independent life without being couped up with the parents. I also need a new car (mine died) and taxis are costing a fortune.
Would the OR let me save for a car and/or house rental deposit? Would just like to know if this is allowed in any which way. I'd just like to know how my life will pan out for the next three years if I get this promotion.
Thanks again0 -
It is perfectly reasonable for a person to need to move out of a parent's house and into rented accommodation. As far as the OR is concerned it must be suitable - so a 1 bed place would be fine for a single person although they would object to a single person renting a mansion!!
The OR might allow you the opportunity to save up for the deposit but you would have to speak to them (they can't give advice but they will answer a specific question).
It might also be worth speaking to your local authority. Some have deposit schemes available to help with deposits for first time renters although the amounts and criteria change from council to council.
As for replacing the car, you would need to speak to your OR as to what they would allow as it would depend on the distances travelled to work, availability of public transport, etc.0 -
Hi there and thanks for your response too.
My situation is it is me and my 1 year old. So will they allow a 2 bed flat / small house?
And with the car, I was allowed one (before it broke) because of the time my daycare is available doesn't leave me much time to get to work so I can't rely on public transport.
Can I just email the OR? I really don't like ringing them!0 -

The OR would look at whether the rent is reasonable for the area.
The OR does not dictate what size home you can live in. Thus, if you can find a 3 bed house for a similar rent to what 2 bed homes seem to average in your area, then that would be fine.
In your personal instance, 2 beds would be a minimum.....it is, after all, to be a family home.
The crux is, whether the rent is circa the average for the area, for similar properties. Excessively high rents in comparison, may encourage the OR to suggest moving. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Yes, they may prefer it too.
Point out it may save in the long run.0
