Self Employed - Wages not paid.

Hi everyone, what can/should I do if my I have worked two full weeks and my contractor informs me that he is unable to pay my wages this week(for last weeks work) and next week (for this weeks work)??

What can I do about this other than complain, I don't want to fall out with him as I am working for him 5 days a week - even though he doesn't like me haha

Cheers

If you ate self employed, you don't receive wages.

It's simple, don't do any more work for him. He will come up with a sob story or some bullsh£t about why you should carry working for him and he'll promise to pay you.

Send him a letter giving him 7 days to pay or you will take an action against him in the Small Claims Court.

I can't be rude tbh as its a family friend.
We call payment for my work done 'wages' I am self employed but treated like an employee, He will pay in two weeks but that's no good to me I don't have any money to my name currently.

I'm on less that what employees call minimum wage which doesn't help the financial situation but he presumes I will be okay without wages.

Is there anything other than small claims court threat?

Well you could send a couple of heavies round with baseball bats but that might be considered "rude" too!

Seriously though, you can't have it both ways......

Ask nicely, ask firmly, threaten to sue, sue.

Have you told him that you have no money now?

    Are you in CIS?

But he's not a friend is he? Friends don't treat each other that way. It's a business relationship and you need to see it that way. I'm sure if the boot was on the other foot, he would be going mental at you for not paying.

Man up and stop being intimidated. Threaten to put him into court. He'll soon have the money. And in the meantime, don't work for him any more. He's taking the p£ss out of you. He knows it and you know it.

If it wasn't a family friend what would you do? The answer is to do that whoever it is.
  • One of the worst job options is working for a family friend or a family member, they seem to be the hardest people to deal with. Especially because of these kind of situations. If it was your regular boss, you wouldn't be in this situation.

I would withhold any more work until paid. Are other staff getting the same treatment?

Some family friend, if not paying on time.
