Mortgage for Commercial/Residential Property

Hi,

I'm looking at a property which is technically listed as a commercial property - although it's been commercially empty for years (at least 10 years), and the previous owner just lived in the 2 floors above. It's now owned by the bank.

Is a commercial mortgage needed for properties like this, or would it be possible to find a residential mortgage company to finance it? I'm planning on just living on the top 2 floors, like the previous tenant did.

I know there's a bit of exploring to do with the council on business rates etc, but I just wondered if anyone had any knowledge on these things before I start poking around (it's a small town and people talk fast :rotfl: )?

Thanks!
