Cost of new tyres - self assessment return.

Hi everyone,

I am claiming the cost of a new set of tyres. Does this come under "Car, van and travel expenses" or "cost of goods bought.... goods used".

Motor Expenses. Most definitely NOT the latter, unless you sell tyres as your business.

I presume that you are not claiming the 45p/25p mileage rates?

No. I was working on the basis that 85% of my car miles were business miles therefore 85% of my total car expenditure is allowable.

That is absolutely correct and don't forget if you go on holiday in your car include all the petrol.
