Bankruptcy - unknown debts not disclosed

I was declared bankrupt in early 2013 and discharged in 2014 accordingly with no problems.
I have recently been written to regarding an outstanding HMRC Working Tax Credit overpayment which I believed had been repaid via annual awards being nulled. Unbeknown to myself, my ex-wife skipped a year during this process so the repayment stopped but I received no letters.
The debt is from 2004 and it's taken them 10 years to tell me! I can only assume the ex-wife is refusing to pay so they are chasing me for the full amount. I am happy to argue a 50-50 split but my question is whether this can be written off as part of the bankruptcy proceedings?
Whilst I accept the letters have arrived after discharge, the debt was before although I was not aware so did not disclose it.
Hope that's enough info

If the liability pre-dates your bankruptcy then it is covered.

Trick normally is getting HMRC to comprehend that fact, as they have a habit of denying it, or trying to quote principles they say exempt it, but which have now been ruled invalid in the High Court or similar.
