Not sure whether I should be here or in DIY!
We bought a Motor Home and the cushions need recovering.I will be making them myself so any ideas on the following:-
Good quality, low cost material and where to get it at the lowest price.
Other ideas on what to use ie duvet covers.
I want to keep the cost low but would like it to look as good as possible

I wouldn't cover the seats with material from a duvet cover, unless i was making a pattern from it before cutting into a more suitable fabric. You can get some lovely upholstery or chenille material from ebay or do you have an Abhakan fabric shop near you at all?0

I have just made some seat pads for conservatory chairs with material from Ikea, a very heavy cotton which seems hard wearing. Might be worth a look.0

Most charity shops are brimming with second hand curtains which you can cut up, usually £5 to £10. Most curtain material is hardwearing. Measure and work out your amount and go shopping ! If you don't find anything , dunelm and that kind of place always have curtains in the sale.Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)
It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound in weight. Target 13 lbs weight loss. 18.5lbs lost 2nd May - 28 September.0 -
Curtain fabric would be excellent, and might be even cheaper from your local Scrapstore, if you have one. You can fill a bin-bag for £5 at ours, though there's a small annual fee for belonging.Angie - GC Sept 25: £405.15/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Sorry for my late reply, my laptop has been very poorly!
Thank you for the replies
I dont know if I would get enough material (the same pattern) going the charity shop route.
I had forgotten about Ikea tbh!
Scrapstore sounds interesting, but I've never seen one round here
Also Abhakan, no shops near me0 -
There are Scrapstores in Yeovil, Minehead & Bristol. I being to the Poole/Bournemouth & Puddletown ones, and there's always fabric, some of it still on the bolt.
Rosenberg's are doing a pop-up at Sherborne next Thursday & Friday, if you're towards that end of things; they had some stunning fabrics at very good prices at the show in Shepton Mallet last week & I rather think I'll be taking at least one daughter & my trainee-daughter-in-law up there at some point.
I often come across huge curtains in my line of work (vintage fabrics) and they're quite likely to come in groups of 4 or even 6 - enough fabric to re-curtain several rooms, with enough left over to make cushions! From my point of view, they will fetch less as curtains than if I spilt them up & sell them on just as fabric - which people often tell me they're going to make into curtains! Bit of a shame, really, but that's how it is. I suspect most charity shops wouldn't put really big curtains out, as they'll only put stuff on the shop floor that's likely to sell quickly & people don't "see" curtains as a source of fabric, just as - well, curtains; if you asked, they might keep some back for you.
My best find was paying virtually nothing for a big bin-bag of "fabric" that turned out to me two huge pairs of Laura Ashley bespoke curtains in good condition; they were part of a job lot that I paid £10 for. The bigger pair measured over 3m wide each, by 2.3 m long, and the others weren't much smaller. That's a LOT of high-quality fabric. The two pairs have been remade into full-length curtains for our hallway & the doors into the conservatory, and 5' curtains for the living room, plus some cushion covers. And there's still some left - but you can have too much of a good thing!
So given a few weeks, you should be able to turn something up somewhere at a very reasonable price.Angie - GC Sept 25: £405.15/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I've just finished making new curtains and seat cushion covers for my motorhome, I used 2 pairs of curtains donated by mil, really took my time to ensure I had enough for all ... on the seat and back cushions I used a cream canvas material as you wouldn't see it and added velcro to make them removable. Just got to cover the buttons and sew the tie backs ... and I'm done :-)A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0
