Finding long cook (8+ mins) porridge oats

Hi.
A few months ago I discovered long cook oats that should be cooked for 8 minutes and love them when only cooked for 3 as it's hot but still very textured, unlike the quick cook textureless stuff mostly stood nowadays, which I can't stand and make me want to be sick for some reason.
However, the only really available one I've found that's 8 minutes cook is Sainsbury taste the difference oats which seems odd to me to pay more for something that's less processed, but guess that it's the quantity of sales thing.
Has anyone else comes across long cook porridge other than sainsburys?
Thanks in advance!

Just buy any basic/market value/own brand porridge oats and stir them with cold water, or milk, or milk/water mix over a low heat with wooden spoon or spurtle until thick.

Scott's old fashioned porridge oats are the same as the Sainsburys Taste the difference , Waitrose also do something similar but I cant remember what they are called. My OH likes a 'chunkier' porridge and that what we buy. The Scotts ones tend to be on offer more than the others, they are 2 boxes for £3.50 now in Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys

I'm assuming you just mean bog standard porage oats rather than 'instant' stuff.
We're perfectly happy with Aldi own brand @ 75p per kg.
I assume you mean you only cook them for 3 minutes so a bit like hot muesli?0 -
Another vote for Aldi. I make mine with all Soya Milk. 3 mins in the Microwave and somehow this recipe means the porridge doesn't go everywhere and can be cooked in a normal sized bowl.
Other people recommend the Lidl oats, too.0 -

Is 20 mins long enough for you? Mornflake Stone Ground available from Sainsbury's Waitrose & Ocado.

Tesco Value oats at 78p for 1kg are excellent.
I have been using them for years! I, too, prefer the texture of slow cooked oats to the quick version.0 -
Thanks all.
I have typically been a muesli person, but instant oats/readybrek conformal gloop may be the traditional "porridge" consistency, but I just can't stand it. What changed my mind was staying in a hotel where they offered fresh porridge, and it blew my mind that it could be that good, when I can't stand it at home, so asked the chef what he used!
I've tried Aldi Oats, Lidl Oats, Tesco Value Oats, and Quaker Oats but they all break down to that same gloop too quickly, as they are aimed at ~ 2/3 minutes cooking time, so by the time they are hot, their gloop as well. I like the mix of thick (slightly underwatered) porridge, while still being able to make out the individual grains of oats.
I think the oats I like are "thick rolled" oats: quoting Wikipedia
"Thick-rolled oats are large whole flakes, and thin-rolled oats are smaller, fragmented flakes. Oat flakes that are simply rolled whole oats without further processing can be cooked and eaten as "old-fashioned" oatmeal, but more highly fragmented and processed rolled oats absorb water much more easily and therefore cook faster, so they are sometimes called "quick" or "instant" oatmeal"

I think that your problem comes from a combination of cooking method and recipe, with the original oats being a secondary issue.
I, too, like my porridge thick, with discernible grains, and even with some of those chewier, denser parts you get if not enough liquid has got into part of the mix.
I definitely get this with Aldi Oats, made without water, just Unsweetened Soya Milk (mine's from Aldi), cooked in the microwave on high power for 2.5-3 mins. I came up with that recipe to (a) try to get it thicker and creamier, and (b) to see if it would make any difference to the "overflow" problem with microwave porridge, which it did.
In my case I stop it after 1.5 mins to add frozen berries, and then continue heating.
I also make (microwave) flapjacks, so it wasn't a huge leap of imagination to realise that the consistency of my porridge might be related to the proportion of liquid to oats.0 -
Lidl porridge for me (39p per 500g)..soaked overnight with water, then topped up with milk and microwave 2mins. Tesco oats are dustier though cheaper.0

You could try coarse pinhead oatmeal. Most rolled flakes are bakery ingredients not breakfast material.0
