Mortgage on unfinished property

Hi,
I'm building my own house and have a self build mortgage. They have with held back some money until we have completed the build. I need to pay several hundred pounds to get some of this money released so I can continue and finish the build. Then I can claim the final £15K. Only problem to get this final lump sum I need to have the house signed off. However, I need this money to complete the house before building control will sign it off!
I'm loathed to go back to my self-build mortgage company as they are already ripping me off left, right and centre. I'd like to cut my losses and try and get a standard mortgage.
The helpful mortgage adviser at my local Lloyds branch told myself and my wife several months ago that they would be able to lend on a house as long as it was liveable, had heating, water, means to wash and cook.
We are now past that stage and have nearly finished the build and are living in the property. We just need some more money to finish the landscaping/drive etc.
We went back to Lloyds but the mortgage advisor is off long term sick and the appointment for the advisor in another branch is ages away, so we went to Halifax (we bank with them) to ask for a mortgage. They have told us no mortgage company will give us a loan until we have had the house signed off and been living in it for 6 months.
Can anybody help me and point me in the direction of a mortgage company that might be able to help?
Thanks in advance and hope it makes sense.
Neil
