job offer withdrawn post bankruptcy

Hi there
My partner had an interview with a top high street bank . The position was for a casual cashier and was arranged through her friend who works at the bank.
A few days later the bank manager rang to offer her the job and an application form was sent out. My partner explained that she couldn't start until after Easter as she has to work a month's notice. He said that's fine as Easter a busy time for him.
We filled in application form and noticed a question regarding bankruptcy so she handed in form at bank and asked to speak to him but he wasn't available, she left details for him to contact her.....2 days later he rang and said (recorded on answerphone) going through paperwork now can you bring in passport.
Next day she rang again to speak to him again unavailable the assistant manager said he will ring back....No call came.
My wife's friend asked was all ok and he confirmed to her that it was.
Now weeks later he rang to say that he had chased her application and to which they said they hadn't received it from him,so he was in process of 're sending when he realised she was discharged bankrupt in 2010 at which point he said he needs to seek further advice from area manager. My wife left her job today......he just rang they have withdrawn the offer due to her failing a credit search.......how do we stand.....do we have any rights or is it just bad luck.

That sounds rotten luck.
Sadly without a job offer in writing the bank might not have been professional but technically based on what you've said they've done nothing wrong.
I hope she gets work soon, in my opinion there's too much discrimination based on historical bankruptcies.0
