Mortgage + Debt advise please

Hiya I need to get a mortgage in principle but if I owe the HMRC £2000 and this is being collected through a debt agency will this affect my chances of getting one?

Thanks for any help.

This will definitely impact on your ability to get an Agreement in Principal.

That depends, Mine didn't as it wasn't registered on any of my credit files.
    Have you checked all 3?

Its still a debt so even if it doesn't affect the credit report the monthly payments will affect the affordability

That's true but if you didn't want it to show, take it off direct debit and wait a couple of months - pay it manually in cash. It wouldn't show them. Just a cheeky option - I am not suggesting it as I am not a financial advisor but its an option.

Its not an option if the debt is reflected in your tax coding.

Thanks for the replies, nothing shows up on credit reports. It was an overpayment of tax credits which is now with recovery firm.
