    I understand it may be difficult if you are about to go on maternity, and it may not be the worst idea to wait until you return to join, but bear in mind the contribution is normally a percentage not a fixed amount, so it shouldn't be £80 per month when your income drops during maternity.

    As already stated by someone else your benefits may increase on the reduced income meaning you could potentially contribute at little or no actual cost to yourself.

    Don't write it off without looking into the options properly.
